The court for Volleyball is 6 metres x 10metres which is smaller than the standard court, with a lower net. There are separate events for men and women. Only 6 members of a team can be on the court at any one time.
The aim of the game is to score a point by propelling the ball over the net using your hands which are clasped together like a single fist to punch or thrust the ball over the net and down onto the surface of your opponent’s half of the court. The opposing team try to defend their half of the court and return the ball with the aim of hitting the court surface on your side of the net and scoring a point.
There are 5 sets in each match. The team winning the best of 5 is the overall winner. In each set teams play until one reaches 25 points with a 2 point lead. The final set is played to 15 points.
