GB’s Sparkling tennis secures Quads World title

Following on from a successful British Open in Nottingham, where Wheelchair Tennis Quad GB star Peter Norfolk narrowly missed out on the title to No.2 ranked player David Wagner. Nottingham once again welcomed the elite of World tennis to the 25th World team cup.

Burdekin determination and skill shines through

The British weather added its usual element of uncertainty, but didn’t dampen the spirits of the British team, with the Men’s Quad players Jamie Burdekin and Peter Norfolk producing brilliant displays, both being the come back kings in this event, after each suffered defeat in the singles at the British Open to the very players who they defeated in the final of the Quads. Firstly Burdekin, whose rapid rise in the sport has been nothing short of phenomenal, defeated American Nick Taylor who had beaten him days earlier in the British Open. After going down 2-6 in the first set the signs didn’t look good, but wearing the GB vest which he whore with such pride to win bronze in Beijing, Jamie rallied and came back with characteristic, determination and skill to win the next two sets and the match 6-1 6-2.

Norfolk wraps up victory for GB

Peter Norfolk wrapped up proceedings with a keenly fought contest against David Wagner, coming through in the end 7-5 7-6 for Britain to retain the World Team Cup. “It's such a great feeling to get the World Team Cup trophy back after seven years and to do it on home soil and with that kind of support from the crowd is awesome,". "It's been a testing week, but it's been a great experience and a great performance and one we can build on ahead of 2012."

Dutch Women’s players show their class…again!

The British Women’s duo Lucy Shuker and World Junior No.1 Jordanne Whiley put in outstanding performances to reach the final but came up against the Dutch super powers of Esther Vergeer and Korie Hoeman. Whiley put in a solid performance but couldn’t stop going down 6-3, 6-2 to World Number two Korie Hoeman. That was followed up by Lucy Shuker being defeated by Esther Vergeer 6-0, 6-0 to give the Netherlands the title. This was the second time Lucy had been defeated by Esther Vergeer, as only a few weeks earlier she gave a spirited performance in defeat in the Wimbledon Doubles final.
